Meet Dr. Bibby
Dr. Kathryn Bibby has been crafting healthy, beautiful smiles in Nelson, BC for more than 25 years. As the only certified orthodontist in the region, she has the pleasure of seeing patients and their families from across the East and West Kootenay. She enjoys building special relationships with our practice families, and is even starting to treat the next generation of “Bibby Smiles.”
With orthodontic treatment, you are not simply choosing “braces,” “expanders,” or “aligners,” but rather the professional who uses these tools to improve your bite and enhance your smile. Dr. Bibby has the knowledge and experience to customize her treatment recommendations to fit the individual needs of each patient, and to know the appropriate time to start. Whether it is with braces or the more discreet “brace-free” approach of Invisalign, Dr. Bibby can help you achieve your smile goals, often while improving your confidence and dental health.
Dr. Bibby has a reputation for providing quality care by combining the art and science of Orthodontics. She has a dental degree (BDS, 1987) from the University of Otago, New Zealand, and has been an orthodontic specialist since 1993. She completed her three-year, full-time orthodontic program at the University of Toronto to graduate with a Master of Science and Diploma in Orthodontics. Dr. Bibby spent a few years in Yellowknife and travelled extensively to provide orthodontic care to under-serviced regions in the far north. She found it extremely rewarding to transform these patients’ smiles and lives through improved access to orthodontic care.
When an opportunity arose, the lure of the Kootenay region was too much to resist and Dr. Bibby proudly opened her Orthodontic office in Nelson in 1996. She has since expanded, renovated, and gone digital with X-rays and charting, while staying in the same location. Dr. Bibby continues to keep abreast of the latest research and techniques through Orthodontic study clubs and attending conferences and continuing education courses.
Outside of the office, Dr. Bibby enjoys the active outdoor Kootenay lifestyle with her husband Garry, and tries to keep up with her two young sons on the trails and ski hills. She also supports many local community groups such as KidSport, Friends of the Family, the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation, and the SPCA.
