Meet Dr. Mattson
Dr. Melanie Mattson is a Certified Specialist in Orthodontics and a Kootenay local, having been born and raised in the city of Trail. Her post-secondary education began at Selkirk College and progressed to a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology at the University of Calgary, and continued at the University of Alberta where Dr. Mattson obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2009. Upon graduation, she entered a General Practice residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, where she gained additional training in emergency dentistry, oral surgery and special care dentistry. Having this valuable experience after dental school has made her a well-rounded practitioner with a thorough understanding of all facets of dentistry.
Dr. Mattson was fortunate to have the opportunity to return to British Columbia when she enrolled at UBC for three years of specialty training in orthodontics, earning her Master’s degree in Craniofacial Sciences. She is a dually certified specialist, both as a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada as well as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Melanie is well versed in all areas of orthodontics, with a particular interest in new advances in digital technology such as the iTero scanner used at Nelson Orthodontics. Dr. Mattson considers herself a lifelong learner and is dedicated to offering the highest quality care to her patients. She routinely participates in and lectures at study clubs, courses, and conferences to keep up to date with the latest advances in orthodontic treatment, and is an active leader in the Women in Dentistry mentorship program offered by the BC Dental Association.
After being in Vancouver for almost ten years, Dr. Mattson is thrilled to be back in the Kootenays, getting to know the patients at Nelson Orthodontics and exploring the community of Nelson with her husband David and new daughter Alexandra.
